BSN : Medical Infrastructure to Support Longer Life Expectancy in Indonesia

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Standardization Agency emphasized that achieving an 80-year life expectancy in Indonesia requires SMART healthcare facilities (Safe, Quality, Secure, Friendly, Affordable), achievable through collaboration and synergy.

Donny Purnomo stated that a high life expectancy is a key indicator for achieving Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045. He cited data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), which reported Indonesia’s life expectancy in 2023 at 73.93 years.

“This figure is relatively low,” Donny noted, pointing to limited medical infrastructure and inadequate healthcare workforce as contributing factors. He emphasized that establishing SMART healthcare facilities is a critical effort to extend Indonesians’ life expectancy.

“In addition to SMART facilities, implementing Indonesian National Standards (SNI) must also be encouraged,” Donny said at INAHEF 2024 in Jakarta on Tuesday.

“BSN supports the implementation of standards related to medical devices and healthcare facilities. While many standards have already been established, their application requires collective support through collaboration and synergy among all stakeholders to achieve shared progress,” he added.

As of August 2024, BSN has established 15,231 SNIs, including 463 active standards related to medical devices and healthcare facilities.

Strengthening Healthcare Facilities and Industry through INAHEF 2024

Eko Supriyanto, President of the Indonesian Healthcare Engineering Association (PTPI), highlighted that INAHEF 2024 aims to develop models and programs for 2025–2029 to strengthen healthcare facilities and the healthcare industry.

“This includes programs for health screenings targeting nine priority diseases, a systematic, massive, and modern tuberculosis control program, the development of healthcare facilities across Indonesia, as well as models for the domestic medical equipment industry and financing structures for healthcare facilities,” Eko explained.

He expressed hope that INAHEF 2024 participants—including central and regional governments, healthcare facilities, universities, professional associations, consultants, and contractors—would actively contribute, synergize, and provide input to sharpen healthcare transformation and achieve SMART Hospitals in Indonesia.

INAHEF 2024, initiated and supported by the Presidential Staff Office, National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Ministry of Health, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Industry, and BSN, is organized by the Indonesian Healthcare Engineering Association (PTPI). The event involves collaboration with industries, universities, associations, and local governments.

Key objectives include drafting implementation plans for 2024–2029 government healthcare programs, gathering and applying input from regions nationwide, assessing the compliance of SMART Hospital products with regulations, and recognizing industries meeting regulatory standards.
