Implementation of SNI S.M.A.R.T Expected to Improve Healthcare Facility Quality in Indonesia

Critical | Jakarta – The National Standardization Agency (BSN) encourages healthcare facilities (Fasyankes) to implement Indonesian National Standards (SNI) that are S.M.A.R.T (Safe, Quality, Affordable, Friendly, Accessible) to ensure the quality of healthcare services in Indonesia.

This statement was made by the Secretary General of BSN, Donny Purnomo, at the International Healthcare Engineering Forum (INAHEF) 2024 held at Smesco Hall, Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

According to Donny, the implementation of SNI related to medical equipment and healthcare facilities must be optimally encouraged. “Medical equipment and healthcare facilities that apply standards will drive progress in the healthcare sector, and this can be achieved through collaboration and synergy among all parties,” he said.

As of August 2024, BSN has established 15,231 SNI standards, with 463 of these related to medical equipment and healthcare facilities still active.

INAHEF 2024 is a forum initiated and supported by the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), and BSN. This event is organized by the Indonesian Association of Healthcare Engineering (PTPI) in collaboration with industry, universities, associations, and local governments.

Professor Eko Supriyanto, President of the Indonesian Association of Healthcare Engineering (PTPI), explained that the forum is held to produce models and programs for 2025-2029 to strengthen healthcare facilities and the health industry. “This includes health check-up programs for 9 priority diseases, the structured, systemic, massive, and modern management of TB, and the fulfillment of healthcare facilities across Indonesia,” said Prof. Eko.

The goal of the event includes formulating the implementation plan for the 2024-2029 government health programs, obtaining input from regions, and assessing the compliance of products supporting SMART Hospitals with regulations. The event will also recognize industries that have met regulations.

Through INAHEF 2024, it is hoped that the attendees—including central and regional governments, healthcare facilities, universities, professional associations, and healthcare consultants and contractors—will contribute actively, collaborate, and sharpen the health transformation efforts, aiming to achieve SMART Hospitals in Indonesia.
