KBRN, Jakarta – The life expectancy of Indonesians in Southeast Asia remains relatively low. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the life expectancy of Indonesians reached 73.93 years in 2023.
Several factors contributing to this low life expectancy include limited medical infrastructure and services, as well as the insufficient number of qualified medical personnel.
According to the Secretary General of the National Standardization Agency (BSN), Donny Purnomo, to reach a life expectancy of 80 years, Indonesia needs SMART healthcare facilities (Fasyankes). SMART stands for Safe, Quality, Affordable, Friendly, and Accessible, which can be achieved through collaboration and synergy.
“A long life expectancy is one of the key indicators for realizing Indonesia's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2045. Therefore, SMART healthcare facilities are crucial to improving the life expectancy of Indonesians,” Donny said during the International Healthcare Engineering Forum (INAHEF) 2024 in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
He added that, in addition to being SMART, the implementation of Indonesian National Standards (SNI) related to medical equipment (alkes) and healthcare facilities (faskes) must also be encouraged, as many standards have already been established.
As of August 2024, BSN has set 15,231 SNI standards, 463 of which are related to medical equipment and healthcare facilities, and are still active.
“However, the implementation of these standards needs to be supported together by collaborating and synergizing with all relevant parties for mutual progress,” Donny said.
Meanwhile, the President of the Indonesian Association of Healthcare Engineering (PTPI), Eko Supriyanto, explained that INAHEF 2024 was organized to develop models and programs for 2025-2029, particularly for strengthening healthcare facilities and the healthcare industry.
“This includes health check-up programs for 9 priority diseases, a structured, systemic, massive, and modern program for handling TB, as well as programs for fulfilling healthcare facilities across Indonesia and developing a domestic medical equipment industry structure and healthcare facility financing models,” Eko said.
Through INAHEF 2024, Eko added, it is hoped that attendees, including representatives from central and regional governments, healthcare facilities, universities, professional associations, and healthcare consultants and contractors, will contribute input and become more active in collaborating to refine the healthcare transformation and achieve SMART Hospitals in Indonesia.
INAHEF 2024 is a forum initiated and supported by the Presidential Staff Office, the National Development Planning Agency, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Industry, and BSN. The event is organized by PTPI in collaboration with industry, universities, associations, and local governments.
